Two-player game of life Android game

Hey guys, check out this two-player GOL app I built.
It's meant to be simple and fun, and I may add online games (to challenge faraway players) pretty soon.
Can anyone try and figure what would be the best strategy for winning it?

I had a very similar idea for a game on the pc. Mine will be more geometry wars themed though and It Will have multiple game modes.
