Version beta 0.6.0 was uploaded today. The following changes since beta 0.5.1 have been made:

• There are now a lot more colour options (in Options -> Display Settings). Score!
• Circles now draw properly and don't leave behind weird "residue" on the grid
• The Display Settings menu now allows you to turn on and off cell count, generation count, bounding box, and...
• There is now an option to display the number of cells that have changed since the last generation. This is turned off by default because for large patterns it runs quite slowly.
• By default only generation and cell counts are on now. The more of those options are turned on, the slower the animation will run (though it's not noticeable unless you have a really big pattern running really fast)
• The "rules" menu now works and you can specify other rules for use in the applet
