I have a new proposal for 30P5H2V0, what I call Pocketwatch--looking back on project alias I see "caravan" was suggested since it's a "moving house". How about "mobile home"? (Of course I still prefer pocketwatch)

This is purely based on feeling, but for me none of the names above fit the ship very well. "Caravan" fits the best for me. Again, this is all feelings, I have no good reasons, I just feel they dont fit.

I dunno whether this is in the right place.

Here's a naming proposal.
First, the resulting pattern needs to officially be called a beethoven, given that it is basically official terminology.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
o3bo$o3bo$o3bo$b3o!
And thus, the resulting constellation for this is a chopin:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 7, rule = B3/S23
3o2$bo$bo$obo$bo$bo!
Note:
The chopin is formed from a somewhat similar sparking as the beethoven, but contact is established two generations later.

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
obo10bo$3o10bobo$13b2o3$3o9b3o$obo9bobo$3o9b3o!
are there any constellations to call Bachs, Schumanns, Rachmanninoffs, and other Baroque, Classical, Romantic (etc.) composers?

EDIT:
I guess this is a Bach:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 12, rule = B3/S23
2bo$2bo$2bo3$2bo$bobo$o3bo$o3bo$o3bo$bobo$2bo!
and don't worry, we have plenty of material.

This must be a schumann:

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
3o3b2o2b2o2bo$obo2bo2bo2bo2bo$3o3b2o2b2o2bo!
What would be a mozart

-------------------------------------------------------------------

here's a fat list of names with their respective meanings

-------------------------------------------------------------------

oscillators

110P62 = winker (the two merzenich's p31s that are slightly off-sync resemble eyes opening and closing (albeit not in sync), which in itself also resembles winking. there's also two blinkers in the middle)
117P18 = r-snacker (the two extended snackers hassle what resembles an r-pentomino in the middle)
123P27 = intestine (this one is obvious: it resembles a small intestine)
144P24 = royal family (this one is also obvious because of the two crowns)
145P20 = mattress (the three middleweight emulators resemble a bed)
14P2.1 = wishing well (it is ridiculous how this pattern is still unnamed after all these years. it uses the reaction observed in the pattern "lei", and since lei is romanian money, "wishing well" was something that popped into my head. probably because of how it looks circular and that stuff)
14P2.3 = wishing fox (literally looks like a wishing well and fox combined, boom, wishing fox)
14P2.4 = melting clock (resembles a large clock, however it looks wonky. so i called it melting clock after that one famous painting)
168P22.1 = soup kitchen (only because of the four griddles that stabilize it)
186P24 = swamp (the toad in the middle looks like it's on some sort of lilypad, and so "swamp")
258P3 = behemoth (just look how big it is)
29P9 = funnel (the cells trickling out of the pattern at the top right looks like some sort of hourglass thing, but looks more like a funnel so let's call the entire thing a funnel)
30P6.1 = joke (this one is a good one. the block in the middle turns into a grin, back into a block, then back into a grin and back into a block again whenever it is hassled by a eater bridge eater. this resembles a eater bridge eater telling something humourous to make the block grin, and so the block turns to their buddy (the adjacent eater bridge eater) and tells them the aforementioned joke, making the block grin again at the joke. and so the cycle continues, with the block telling their joke to their buddy, then going to another buddy and telling the same joke, etc.)
33P3.1 = beeswax (only because of the two beehives at the top)
41P7.2 = llama (at generation 5, it emits a duoplet spark, resembling a llama spitting and it eventually dissolving)
44P14 = elevator (an obvious one: the space in between going up and down also resembles an elevator ascending and descending)
54P17.1 = hot spring (a lazy one: at generation 11, a tub appears. that's it)
60P312 = three-hundred and twelver (self-explanatory)
62P3.1 = deception (another good one. the duoplet sparks that it produces look like duoplets, but they function as dot sparks because of their position)
77P77 = topaz (everybody else in the thread is saying topaz, so why not)
84P87 = soggy bread (only because of the tubs and the loaves)
94P27.1 = tea for two (the two ponds and the two blocks represent cups and seats respectively. i guess you could say the two "thumb 1"s represent the two people?)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

methuselahs

7468M = helping hand (the pre-block aside the r-pentomino is meant to represent helping the r-pentomino to survive for longer)
24827M = three threes (after 24827 generations, it will have created exactly 333 blocks, hence the name)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

spaceships

117P9H3V0 = tranquilizer (only because of the front which resembles a dart)
119P4H1V0 = bear (at the front, the spaceship nudges some sort of beehive predecessor, and because of the stereotype that bears eat honey, i called it a bear)
233P3H1V0 = goldfish (the tail and the rotund body of a goldfish resemble this spaceship)
295P5H1V1 = king prawn (it speaks for itself)
30P4H2V0.4 = duopleter (1. at generation 2, it possesses two duoplets in the middle of it, and 2. a pun on a loafer)
339P7H1V0 = gallop (the "chicken feet" at the end of the spaceship represent feet, galloping in a way)
55P9H3V0 = loafish (at generation 1, two loaves are present. since the spaceship kind of resembles a fish in generation 1 as well, i called it the loafish)
56P6H1V0 = earthquake (the blinkers on the side represent the ground shaking. it also possesses 56 cells, and element 56 is barium)

ok i'll stop now

Some patterns I named in Shinjuku recently:
xp4_8cf3jggj3fc8zy0pvvpz13fccwccf31 = diatomic kitten (one phase looks like two kittens)
xp618_0ggwo48alic88gz011x115a4311yzezy1ggxcm8yu8kk8y366zx4701y4232zzxgs26y1cic4ydggycggy162sgzyt211yb11zzzw178cyzyac871zzygooyhoozgs26yzye62sgzxc453yzy8354c = chirp-chart (two small conduits "communicating" with each other with R-pentominoes in the mix; at no point is either conduit completely idle)
xq4_yao211vxv112ozyc8obxbo8zy9gokmlllllllmkogzo88gy0g8cabaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabac8gy0g88ozfgw2oe555d5d1d11131313111d1d5d555eo2wgfzx267yp762 = Canada Grey

Mmm, I have seen it in this page. The oscillator is extensible, and I used to synthesize the heavyweight variant in 43G. It seems that there is no synthesis for the middleweight one in catagolue.

Since the U-turner name has become common, here is the R-turner, which is semi-common. The name should make sense by just watching. This is a serious proposal, unlike the "RWSS" I mentioned in the other thread a month or two ago.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
2b2o$4bo$o2bo$3o!
It is not to be confused with the Iwona active region (should we just start calling it simply Iwona?); the R-turner is on the left, and the two on the right are both Iwonas.

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 4, rule = B3/S23

The second predecessor also isn't minimal. The two beehives can be made separately for eight cells total, but I recall there being at least two seven-cell predecessors that made the two beehives together.

I named the SKUOP20 below dockyard since the bulk of the pattern turns a tub into a ship and back again:

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 15, rule = B3/S23

I also feel that the 34P14 shuttle should be named butterfly shuttle.

There are no butterflies in it, though.

This is a butterfly:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
o$2o$obo$b3o!
This turns into two butterflies, which could give it the name "butterfly spark", although it's currently unnamed:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
b3o$ob2o$2obo$3o!
The 34P14 shuttle has no butterflies.
