Yes, although it's more commonly comes from one of these two forms:
x = 18, y = 5, rule = B3/S23

There's even a grate in the natural evolution of the Herschel, although it soon gets disturbed.

This is news to me! The one synthesis I have of 17.4579 is my 27 glider one from 2014-01-03, that is a trivial variant of KnightLife's 2013-12-27 29-glider reduction of Sokwe's 30-glider synthesis of 16.1940 (16#90) from the same day. After some fruitless searches, I found this. Since the Big S can be synthesized in 3 Gs, though, I don't have high hopes.
