Simple stable agar, cannot find it on wiki

While playing around I bumped into the following simple agar, a grid of squares with the following 5x5 base block:

Code: Select all

xxxx.
x..x.
x..x.
xxxx.
.....
It's a simple pattern, but I'm unable to find this on the wiki and the life lexicon, also not under agars. Is the pattern known and if so what's its name?

It's infinitely tilable in 2D, or can be made finite and you can put several configurations of tables around it to keep it stable.

E.g. a 1x1 and a 6x6 grid of such squares:

Code: Select all

x = 69, y = 44, rule = B3/S23

It is known but it doesn't have a name I know of.

Onion rings are a 4n x 4n pattern for n>1 and have density 1/2, but this one is 5x5 and has density 12/25

(edit: was in response to post about onion rings which got removed)

The square part is 4x4 (though the unit cell is 5x5) but see above

Ah ok. Maybe it deserves a name and a wiki page, after all both patterns that are simpler (like zebra stripes), and patterns that are more complex (like the onion rings), are listed in the agars section, so this one definitely fits in. E.g. "squares" or "boxes" :)

How did you find the thread so fast by the way? I tried so many searches!

I remembered seeing it before (so I searched "true stable agar" in patterns forum)

How about table bend table? It fits the precedent made by beehive bend tail.

There's no "bend" in it, though. But seeing as the unit cell (appropriately shifted) consists of a table on table, a name with "table" in it does sound appropriate. Maybe just "square table agar"? Or, for something a bit sillier, "tablecloth". :P

Yay tablecloth is fun! Awesome name since it's a repetitive pattern :)

The square is like table on table, except the other way, the bottom table is upside down they stand on each others legs

This thread really put the 'table' in 'stable'.

BUt yes, tablecloth sounds like a good name.

Two skew tableclothes:
