I invented an automated algorithm glider syntheses on the database still lifes and converters. I got the first encouraging results and suggest them to you for analysis and search for errors.
First and foremost was able to significantly improve the synthesis database for still lifes with size up to 15 bits, inclusive:

Altogether I was able to improve 29 still lifes in the range 12-15 bits and 91 still lifes of population 16. I have pushed an update to my github repo.

Note that I have published a list of still lifes and glider costs in order of still life here. If you keep a similar list then it should be easy to find any differences.

This is to Bob Shemyakin (I sent it on Oct. 24, but it doesn't look like you got it).
I am slowly working my way through still15.rar. While I will eventually look through all the syntheses, I am currently looking primarily at syntheses that will affect my secondary stamp collections (i.e. still-lifes buildable from 2-7 gliders, 1 glider/bit, or more than 1 glider/bit). You have several syntheses where you do not list glider counts, so I examined each of them, and discovered one that was incorrect.
Your file "15-466 Bob 04-24-2015.lif" is actually an older synthesis for 15.378.
(I am not worrying about files whose format is incorrect, e.g. RLE files with negative sizes, because the data from these can always be extracted with simple manual editing.)

Thank you! I will make this converter in my automated algorithm.
In my algorithm I use more than 350 converters, their is not enough.
Now I really need some good converters.

Are you sure you are using an up to date version of my lists? I had a 10 glider synthesis of 15.392 in 10 gliders but it was already improved to 7 gliders by 20th December. Also all 10 bit still lifes have been at 6 gliders or less in my lists for even longer than that.

Nice. I just checked through the syntheses I found, and found an error.

16.2446 contains the error AbptzTa pointed out and then fixed in the 16 in 16 thread (glider would have to pass through a block). Here is the corrected synthesis again:

Well it looks promising to me. I think there are 331 still lifes on my list that aren't on yours and 62 still lifes on your list that aren't on mine. Amongst still lifes on both lists I claim a lower cost for 563, while you claim a lower cost for 196. I will start to look through your collection!

EDIT: Looking over your syntheses I have already managed to improve roughly 70 SLs in my own database. I have a few queries about some other things...

Is it possible for you to show explicit syntheses with the following costs. I don't think they are available in any of your collections so far.

Synthesis of 16.625 is actually 15.625

Synthesis of 16.552 is actually of 16.652. This also affects the cost of 15.280 I think.

Synthesis of 16.638 is too small by 2. I think it doesn't count the final conversion from 16.637 to 16.638.

I am bit suspicious about the records for 15.1304, 15.1337 and 16.605. They all use the same aircraft carrier to long python converter. You claim records for 15.1304, 15.1337 and 16.605 but you don't seem to claim records for the 13 and 14-bit still lifes they are based on. Is this correct?

The collection is nice. I found lots of converters that were new to me. Thanks.

EDIT2: I can now match your costs 15.1304 and 15.1337 but they use a different converter than you. Still not sure how to get 16.605 at the cost you state though.

Synthesis of 16.552 is actually of 16.652. This also affects the cost of 15.280 I think.

Synthesis of 16.638 is too small by 2. I think it doesn't count the final conversion from 16.637 to 16.638.

I have no doubt that there are errors in my collection. Although the search for synthesis and verification go programmatically, the original data is necessary to cook manually.
I myself found several errors in numbering still lifes. Errors in the database converters will most likely result in the fact that they wont work.
I will certainly bear your jeamechanija for further work.

Posting here to announce that all syntheses of 15-bit still-lifes have been reduced to below 14 gliders. This result can be seen here on catagolue. However, in it's current state the list is slightly confusing since it also includes some pseudo still-lifes. Looking at the list, you can see that all of the still-lifes marked as costing 14 or more gliders are actually pseudo still-lifes.

The Catagolue update process now runs all of the new Shinjuku objects through apgsearch, thereby determining which ones are true and which are pseudo. By a dodgy hack (internally adding 10^17 to the glider count for true objects), all true objects are displayed above all pseudo-objects in Catagolue's synthesis-costs tabulations. For example:

Line 3286 contains the cheapest true xs16 (the 3-glider bipond), and line 3287 contains the most expensive pseudo xs16 (the 27-glider block on snake-tie-snake). This is perfectly consistent with the OEIS count of 3286 strict still lifes of 16 bits.

As such, Goldtiger's results are now much easier to verify (by looking at the first line in the tabulation).

A side-effect is that the annotations (true) or (pseudo) appear in the #CSYNTH line on the Catagolue page. For example:

Once we have a Niemiec-esque system for synthesising 'easy' still-lifes and adding them to Shinjuku, it should be fairly straightforward to orchestrate a '17 in 17' project without any tedious manual bookkeeping.

EDIT: Aha, this trick of pushing true still-lifes to the top has the fortunate side-effect that if a tabulation exceeds 900 KB compressed, it will only lose pseudo still-lifes (because the ones towards the bottom drop off). That's good if we ever attempt a '20 in 20' project.
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!
