Gliders to Bits

Post by gmc_nxtman » April 9th, 2016, 7:13 pm

This topic is for discussing the ratio of initial gliders to eventual cell population in glider constructions of still lifes, oscillators or spaceships.

Oscillators and spaceships count, but spaceships might be in a category of their own.

Extensible syntheses are not allowed, nor are infinite growth patterns.

The goal is to get the highest ratio of gliders to bits possible. Ratios should be presented as in gliders:bits or verbally.

Here are some to get the thread started:

23:120 (Roughly 1 to 5)

I think you'll have to disallow methuselahs, as ratios could otherwise get as high as 348.8 (or even higher):

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
21bo$o18b2o$b2o17b2o$2o$19bo$18b2o$18bobo3$17bo$10b2o4b2o$10bobo3bobo$
10bo!

...and switch engines...
LifeWiki: Like Wikipedia but with more spaceships. [citation needed]
