Better version of codeholic's slow salvo seed for long antlers, but I don't think it can be used as a slow salvo seed (more like a general 2G seed)

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
bo$2bo$3o5$8bo$7bobo$7bobo$8bo$16b2o$16b2o$5b3o$7bo2b3o$6bo!
xs15_69bojd (shillelagh with curl):

Code: Select all

x = 32, y = 25, rule = B3/S23

Why "better"? It is essentially the same seed, just with cleanup of the blinker (which could be done later as a separate stage).

I had the same question. This new recipe needs two synchronized gliders from two different directions. That's much more expensive than two slow gliders (no synchronization necessary) from the same direction.

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 9, rule = B3/S23
11bo$10bobo$10bobo$11bo$19b2o$19b2o$3o5b3o$2bo7bo2b3o$bo7bo!
That said, this could maybe serve as a reminder that there are some interesting open questions related to glider recipes with 90-degree synchronized gliders. If there's interest in the topic, maybe a thread like this one could collect optimized "slow glider pair" recipes (and various tools to go with them). There's a very old starting point by calcyman -- synthesise-pattern2.zip -- but not much research has been done since then.

Nobody picked up PHPBB12345's challenge from earlier this year, for example. That might be an entertaining starting point.

It seems like it would be a very ambitious goal to come up with a script along the lines of slmake/pslmake that can compile recipes for neo-Spartan constellations (synthesise-pattern2.zip stopped at plain old Spartan stuff for the most part) using synchronized pairs of gliders coming from two directions. But that would probably eventually allow some new records to be set for self-constructing spaceships and suchlike.
