Nice one! EDIT: It wasn't in the elementary conduits collection, anyway -- and it's perfectly workable. It attaches to simsim314's BRx46B conduit with no trouble, and BRx46B attaches to lots of things. I've added it to the collection now. The standardized name is BSE1T1.

That's the fifteenth B-to-G converter in the collection so far, though I'm sure a few known ones haven't been collected yet:

That's a good one, an HF110B. I've added it to the collection. It also works with the workhorse BBx187H (which has the same three conduits at the lower edge, by the way -- kind of an odd-looking combination) making a Bx297 with good clearance for the return signal. I don't see any other workable standard connections offhand.

It's not clear when I'll finish the labeling project for all of the elementary conduits -- my century-to-glider label generator seems to have an annoying bug at the moment. If anyone wants a copy of the current 20%-converted collection, just let me know. Guess I could just start the new thread a little early, and update when I can.

I keep wishing for a stable 90-degree turner that can pull off the p8 reflector's trick of removing a B's natural block. Snarks are a lot better than nothing, and they actually fit in this case, sort of, where the p8 reflector doesn't... but it's still definitely not very satisfactory:

Just noticed this 10-bit polyplet cropping up during an attempt to tame Extrementhuiast's partial conduits:

As shown here, its most common appearance is 22 ticks after a Herschel. I know I've seen it in other contexts, though, when either a pi or a B gets damaged in the right way.

Is there a common name for this H+22 object? And/or have any H+22 outputs been found that don't go through the H stage? That might possibly justify cataloguing H+22 as a separate target.

Yeah, it occurred in this post as part of a stable 2G->"H" reaction. Two of them are formed after 10 ticks from a "stairstep octomino" so maybe that could inspire a name?

EDIT: A disadvantage of giving this object its own name is that a good proportion of existing Herschel conduits would cease to be elementary!

Well, like the E and D objects, the halfstairstep+10 is kind of a solution in search of a problem, until it proves to be useful as a target in at least one or two new conduits. We're getting pretty close on the D, but I guess we haven't quite closed the circuit yet.

In other random news, I found the bug in the C-to-G labeler script. It was actually a feature, not a bug. Turns out the fifth C-to-G, CSE12T39, is the first conduit to contain its own input as part of one of its catalysts. There's an induction coil at the lower left that's also a T=-2 century predecessor -- very confusing to a script that's only pretending to be clever...!

Anyway, so I'm back on track for the labeling project. Maybe the next draft of the collection will be finished one of these months. The output diagram for the C-to-G converters looks like this:

I like to call it a gliderless Herschel, as it's missing the FNG. Unfortunately, it doesn't lead to any good abbreviations (other than perhaps H-G, which can be confusing in its own right).

I'm not following this topic carefully enough, and I'm also not particularly proficient in it to judge which conduits are novel and notable, so I would appreciate if someone found time to report such conduits on the @conwaylife Twitter channel. I've also seen the H+22 object referred to as a "Herschel core" as well. It could be abbreviated "HC" just fine, but it has issues when trying to convert to one letter names, just like the Block and Glider "BG" - both of which have abbreviations made of two other abbreviations.

Though conduits that output a HC without an intermediate Herschel stage might be better classified as anti-dependent conduits or something - instead of requiring a predecessor of the standard input like a dependent conduit, they spit out a successor of the standard output. Though the only elementary herschel conduits I'm aware of that this matters for which aren't already dependant would be Herschel -> [some gliders] where the FNG is one of the gliders outputted - and even then, the result can be mimicked by adding an eater.

I've seen that object a few times in my searches. Since it would fit with most H conduits, I'd just denote it as H'.

The polyplet looks like a Q to me, so it could be abbreviated as such. (The queen bee takes two letters to abbreviate so there is no confusion.)

Seeing the tendency of members to reduce two-letter-abbreviations to one-letter-abbreviations (Like BG to W), IMHO the Q should be reserved for the queen bee... (And partly because I personally like the H' idea:)) Edit: but I am not sure if this comes out independently and cleanly that often to get a name... Well, I haven't took much time in conduit searching.

I don't think we have any LOM->X conduits to try out at the moment, but for the other converter it does look pretty unlikely that there will ever be room for a direct conduit to get a HF in there, and room for another conduit to get the LOM signal out. Yeah, I've already taken the liberty of adjusting the conduit-compiler script to use single-letter identifiers and labels. QB has become Q, BG has changed to W, and (maybe more controversially) Pi has been shortened to just P -- no more Greek letter Π. Can always put it back to the old way, but I doubt we'll go above 26 input/output targets for the foreseeable future, and I don't see any horrible confusions on the immediate horizon. I think that argues in favor of the change I made, more eloquently than I could have. With my current single-letter system I can type "H-to-P-to-Q" without having to stop and remember how to type in Greek -- and people will understand what that means with very little practice. More important, scripts that are handling these elementary conduits don't have to deal with Unicode or strange sort orders. I agree in a way that the Greek letter was nice, but it seems simpler to avoid an entity that might suddenly and mysteriously take it into its head to change into U+03A0 or &#928; or &#x3a0; or &Pi; or whatever, depending on the context. I removed from the conduit-compiler script some special-case code about "if you see a P then wait and see if the next letter is an 'i' and convert that to a Greek letter Π, otherwise leave it alone". Filenames work fine with Π characters in them, at least on Windows, I don't know about other platforms -- but the way the script was set up, library filenames used "pi" not "Π". It's working nicely the way it is now, using "p" in the filenames and labels, so most likely I'm going to politely forget to change it to anything else. I think he meant how to search for his own conduits, in which case try downloading ptbsearch/bellman/catforce and inputting a herschel.
