This rather remarkable soup not only produces an unusual p3 oscillator; it also produces a temporary HWSS that at one point in time is the only active pattern in the entire soup. If the HWSS had escaped, The soup's score would be 42, higher than the current highest score in the Catagolue:

Ahh, so now we have an incredibly inefficient glider synthesis for the p3, namely: • Construct all the junk that exists at generation 780. • Inject the HWSS. • Delete everything that isn't the p3 oscillator. It would be amusing if this is the only known synthesis for the p3. What do you do with ill crystallographers? If I'm not mistaken, blockers are worth 24, so the score would be 24 + 18 + 7 = 49.

On a different note, the highest scoring soups seem to have the longest lifespans of any I've seen. However, if long-lived soups are governed by the same object-frequency rules as short-lived ones, it leads me to suspect that there are plenty of 20000, 30000, and even maybe 40000-gen methuselahs that have already been discovered by apgsearch and gone unreported.

This is quite a reduction from 166 gliders for x66 (I guess that means x = 1? ), which goes to show that even symmetrical soups can still improve glider syntheses of life objects.

Once again, one of Adam's soups from the same census generates another spaceship, this time it's an object I've encountered once before in this very thread:

I don't remember if the confused two-headed spaceship has a name, but even if it's constructible with three gliders, it doesn't look like this will lead to any improvement on the current-best 7-glider fumarole synthesis. Just a few too many blocks and things to build and (mostly) clean up.
