Hassling Mechanisms

Post by Freywa » June 28th, 2013, 10:41 pm

The only known way of constructing oscillators of period 29 involves the hassling of pre-pulsars - in this case, combining 14-tick and 15-tick mechanisms. This generates an idea. Eureka is two 15-tick mechanisms put together, and on this thread it was shown that two copies of a pre-traffic light eater found by Bellman can act as an 11-tick mechanism, to make p22 and p25 oscillators. The question here is: can we find a 12-tick mechanism? If it was found, it could be combined with the 11-tick mechanism to produce a p23 oscillator. I think limiting this discussion to pre-pulsars is not going to turn up much, so we should also consider other objects to hassle, like traffic lights and pi-heptominos.
