Interesting 7 cell stabilisation at around gen 1600!!

Post by Perefalcon » January 14th, 2023, 1:57 pm

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
2b3o$bo$2o$bo!

This is a 7-cell automata that stabilizes at around 1600 generations. I found this while trying to make a useful Pi-heptomino spaceship.

Update: This stabilizes with 13 individual blinkers (including 1 traffic light, and 1 interchange), 21 blocks, 15 beehives, 2 boats, 2 loafs, and 1 lake

I think this is in the wrong subforum. A better topic for this should have been opened az "Patterns" or az "General Discussion"! I suggest asking this here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2036

Your 7 cell pattern might be known, but this is entirely the wrong board to put it up in (we have a CGOL board already). Also they're patterns. Good thing you found though

I was looking at this exact pattern earlier today before you posted it. It's #294 (if zero-indexed) here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2656. Look for the entry that says "2376".

In order to tell others about a pattern, you ought to use LifeViewer using the code tag. Quote my reply and see how I’m using it:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
2b3o$bo$2o$bo!
And as you can see, now the pattern can be displayed by pressing the ‘show in viewer’ button.
Also, please read the ‘forum rules’ on the top of the threads to know what are actually interesting and what are not as interesting to be discovered. For example, your pattern is a methuselah in 16*16 which only lasts for less than 20,000 generations (much less than that!) and thus it’s not recommended to put in any subforums except ‘the sandbox’, where you’re allowed to post almost everything as long as it’s legal and not rude.
Finally, please don’t use so many ‘!’ especially when you’re new to any subject. This often makes others see you as one who knows little but talks too much. Instead, we want others to be logical, as it’s an academic forum.
But of course, everyone here would love finding new friends joining our community and sharing our interests. So you can take a look at the wiki in the top bar which contains lots of information about the discoveries we’ve made in the past years.
Have a good time!
(Not sure if I’m using the appropriate words so please correct it by sending PMs to me if you found some problems)
This is a block of text that can be added to posts you make. There is a 255 character limit.

something useless:

Code: Select all

 #CXRLE Pos=-8,-6
x = 11, y = 10, rule = B3/S23
5bo$6bo$4b3o$9b2o$9b2o3$3o$2bo$bo!

I think Ohhhhhhhhh and Naszvadi covered most of the improvements that could be made to the original post -- but it's a first post, so please don't worry about it.

I will probably move this whole thread into the Sandbox sometime soon -- @Perefalcon, you'll still be able to find it by post number, or by going to Quick Links > Your posts.

If you haven't already explored it, I'd recommend having a look through the various Catagolue censuses for B3/S23. Here's the list of objects with 37 ON cells that have showed up in the C1 (asymmetric) census, for example. You can click through to the soups that create each of these objects.

This isn't strictly relevant to reporting censuses of low-population methuselahs, but the general idea is that topics like this are generally fairly organized at this point. If everybody created a new thread to post a detailed list of the final census of one of the individual patterns in the census of small evolving patterns... well, that would be a lot of threads.

And an absolute nightmare to moderate.
