It feels like the large-spark version of the twin bee shuttle, only moving. Unfortunately it's probably the only gem in the very class-3-ish rule.

Adding an extra history state results in a very different behaviour.

The further addition of B5 gives B345/S2378/C4, a rule with a knightship explored here.
The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Quadratically growing puffer in LifeOnTheEdge. The puffer can be widened indefinitely, but this length gives obvious quadratic (but chaotic) growth.

A puffer that I found in a rule that is a derivative of a "nearly exploding" rule I saw here on the forums.
It's extremely common, but since the rule is just barely exploding (the chaos looks a lot like life soup before it stabilizes) I can't find anything else of note immediately, because there is no ash to find still lifes/oscillators

Oh, woops. Sorry! I don't know how you can instantly pool this information, but hey. It's the only thing I found on that rule (and honestly, since I have other projects, I couldn't be bothered to find more). It is amazingly common. Not very often you see non-exploding life-like rules have a puffer as the most common spaceship.

Well they're the top 2 most common moving objects because they are probably very rare (and the other moving objects even rarer) in that rule (I named it Puffer Kingdom so I can access it everytime in Golly when I want), so I went messing in Golly (that what you call "soup search", more like "soup mess") and the result was:

I discovered an way of placing an bomber near an replicator such that it reproduces an puffer. (Bomber Breeder 1)

Code: Select all

#CXRLE Pos=-55,-84 Gen=438
x = 16, y = 30, rule = B36/S23
5b3o$4bo2bo$3bo3bo$3bo2bo$3b3o4$13b3o$12bo2bo$11bo3bo$11bo2bo$11b3o3$
2b3o$bo2bo$o3bo$o2bo$3o$9b3o7$6b3o$6bobo$6b3o!
Putting another replicator increases the debris (Bomber Breeder 2):

Code: Select all

#CXRLE Pos=-78,-84 Gen=438
x = 39, y = 30, rule = B36/S23
28b3o$27bo2bo$26bo3bo$26bo2bo$26b3o4$36b3o$35bo2bo$2b3o29bo3bo$bo2bo
29bo2bo$o3bo29b3o$o2bo$3o$25b3o$24bo2bo$23bo3bo$10b3o10bo2bo$9bo2bo10b
3o$8bo3bo19b3o$8bo2bo$8b3o5$29b3o$29bobo$29b3o!
Though we may also use a glider stream to surpress the debris to make another of these puffer-based spaceships.
It doesn't matter whether it is notable or not - is yet an cool puffer, nice to watch and have an good challenge/proposal, that is, to turn into a puffer-based spaceship.

I think this is a known pattern, but I'll leave it here anyway. An almost (7,4)c/38 spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 7, rule = B36/S23
3o2$obo$o$b2o$2obo$b2o!
By the way, does anyone have a script that generates a boolean life function for gencols for different rules? I've got a feeling I saw something once, but I cannot find it.

Sorry but boolean life functions are only for Wolfram 1D automatons as far as I know, and any binary (boolean) code function could be generated like the following:
# knowing 10 is 2 and 11 is 3,
## B3/S23 would be the decimal equivalent to B11/S10,11 and
## if therefore you want something that's purely binary,
### then Unicodes are your solution.
# examplis gratias: (seriously it's hard to remember that xitty phrase, lol)
## B3S23 = 0100001000110011010100110011001000110011
(as confirms this self-promoted converter...)
and things unfortunately gets just harder the more complex is the code (i.e. the more chars it has)
like:
01000010001100110011011001010011001100010011001000110101001110100101010001011000001100100011000001010100010110010011010100110000
which is the same as B36S125:TX20TY50. it is the code for (B36S125 (2x2): torus-behavior width 20, torus-behavior height 50)... that is pretty much only an B36/S125 in a 20x50 torus!
ugh... *rooonc*

Probably already known, but a cute puffer in caterpilars

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 5, rule = Caterpillars
7.A.A$AB.AC2A2.A$5AB$5AC$AB.B!
And a dirty breeder that shoots caterpillars and growing spaceships.

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 12, rule = Caterpillars
2$8.A$.AB.AC2A$.5AB$.5AC$.AB.B4.ABA$9.3A$9.3A$9.AB!
Edit: a small tagalong

Code: Select all

 x = 7, y = 18, rule = Caterpillars
2A3.2A$2.A.A$.A3.A2$.A3.A$2.A.A$2.ABA$2.CAC$2.3A$2.CAC$2.3A$3.A$.CBA$
.2AC$B3A$.2A$B2AB$4A!
