Thanks for sharing the details. I figured that this was the case because editing the input files by hand is tedious work. I've had a go at RRO searching recently, but I'm yet to fine tune my intuition for the search space.

I neglected to post the results of the 10c/29 search I mentioned. One of the searches found a result after approximately 5 days of CPU time.

This is now true for period <= 29. For period 30 all diagonal speeds are known, but 14c/30d and 10c/30d are 4 cells.

If it were the way you put it, the CGOL glider would have a speed of 2c/4d.

2718281828's ships are actually 5c/30 and 7c/30 diagonal.
I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

I've updated the 5S Project files once again. This update includes the ships posted in this thread since the last update in early March (thank you everyone for your ongoing contributions), a (27,2)c/80 ship from the previous page of this thread which I seem to have missed, the (21,16)c/254 spaceship by AbhpzTa posted on the MDiOCA thread and the results from a couple of searches I ran recently.

I ran two random rule searches inspired by two recent posts to the forum. The first was the (21,16)c/254 puffer - I used the frontend as the starting point for a search which didn't require the exact pattern to reappear. This search found 359 spaceships with new speeds which have been added to the collection, as well as reducing numerous others. Because the pattern was allowed to evolve for some time before testing for periodicity, many of the ships found are larger than the smallest phase of the puffer. The second search was inspired by the (8,1)c/P ships posted yesterday by 2718281828. That starting configuration suits the LLS search well, and it also suits random rule searching for oblique ships. The search only found 60 new speeds (mostly oblique) but it also found reductions for 830 oblique speeds.

As toroidalet mentioned, there is a small c/39 diagonal ship in the collection. Sorry I didn't mention the location in my previous post - it's not obvious to anyone newly reading this thread. Perhaps I should add it to my forum signature.

If you haven't already had a look at the full collection on my Drive folder then you can also get an idea of what is known from the wiki version. This is less up to date than the *.rle.txt files and only complete for low period speeds (up to p28 I think).

To give an idea of what speed ships are known, here are some summaries of what is currently in the collection for ships of the form (m,n)c/P with P < 100:

Up to period 10 only 4 allowed speeds do not have any known ships: (7,1)c/8, (8,1)c/9, (9,1)c/10, and (9,0)c/10). For the majority of these speeds the ships in the collection are known to have the minimal possible population.

c/P orthogonal: <= 10 cells for 1 <= P < 100, minimal for P <= 64
2c/P orthogonal: <= 5 cells for 2 <= P < 100, minimal for P <= 74
3c/P orthogonal: <= 6 cells for 3 <= P < 100, minimal for P <= 52

c/P diagonal: <= 5 cells for 2 <= P < 100, P != 97, minimal for P <= 82. For c/97 the collection has an adjustable ship with population of 50 cells
2c/P diagonal: <= 6 cells for 4 <= P < 100, P != 91, minimal for P <= 70. 2c/91 is unknown (could also include an adjustable ship here)
3c/P diagonal: <= 6 cells for 6 <= P < 100, P != 93|97, minimal for P <= 78. 3c/93 and 3c/97 are unknown.

Big update to the collection - 4500 new speeds added (750 orthogonal, 1806 diagonal, and 1942 oblique) as well as 5137 updated. This is mostly due to a search in an apparently very lucrative part of the search space based on this 2c/180 diagonal spaceship:

Status for the diagonal ships is now: For all speeds kc/P, k ∈ {1,2,3,4,5,6}, 2k <= P <= 100, the collection contains a minimal population ship, i.e 4 cells for P = 2k, 3 cells for all other P.

Similarly, the collection also contains a ship for all orthogonal speeds kc/P, k ∈ {1,2,3,4,5,6}, k <= P <= 100.

I have now also included the sss files in the Drive folder as well as the latest version of sss.py [ Please note, the testShip() function in this version is incompatible with previous versions, so don't update the old one if you use it for other scripts ]

The sss.py module makes it easy to parse the *.sss.txt files and write quick scripts like this one, which finds the lowest period oblique ship with the maximum known slope (m = 28/29):

The LifeWiki copy of the database is badly in need of updating. For instance, some of the higher-period lists have not yet been converted to tables, and the 16c/32 listed is the 22-cell one from Day and Night rather than the 3-cell one from B2cek3eiry4irwz5ainq/S02i3cej4aeqrty5r. (They are not included here because both are easily found in the respective copies of the list as well as apgsearch.)

Indeed, but personally I don't have much motivation to update the LifeWiki because it is a lot of manual work that needs to be repeated every time it goes out of date. I'd rather spend some time focusing on how to automate the presentation of the 5S collection from the *.sss.txt files. If anyone is interested in this approach the update script is probably a reasonable starting point - so I've put a copy of it in the 5S folder on my GDrive (5S_update.py + 5S_export.py to convert sss to rle). It depends on the sss.py module which is also available there.

I've been thinking about shifting the collection and code to a Github repository. This won't immediately make further automation of maintaining the collection easier, but it may provide some opportunities and simplify maintenance of the updates. Anyone have thoughts about this shift?

I've made another big update which comprises 3 sources. One is a few LLS searches for photons and faster than c/2 ships (see below for some results). The second is a variety of searchRule-matchPatt.py runs which targeted faster speeds. These searches also managed to fill in a few of the missing p15 oblique speeds. The third source is a continuation of the search based on the 2c/180 diagonal ship I mentioned in my previous post. Output from this search dwarfs the other two - in total it found 8733 new and 6380 improved spaceships for the 5S collection. Updated files in the usual place.

I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

Tomorrow I hope to uncover two or three new speeds, though it is taking a very long time. (This one took 52107.6581359 seconds, or nearly 14½ hours, to find.) Might the development version of LLS be faster?
