Natural ships with strange speeds.

Post by Saka » December 21st, 2016, 4:41 am

Usually, natural ships have normal speeds, like c/2, 2c/5, c/3, c/4, etc, but, sometimes, in some rules, the natural ships can have very strange periods, post them here.
RULES:
-Must not be in a rule specifically designed for strange speeds (MovingStrings, pteriforeverspaceships, etc.)
-Must be all-natural (From soup, not designed or even gfind)
-The strange speed must be in "minimal" form, so 20c/50 is not allowed/is not a strange speed.
-A strange speed, here, is defined as:
a. Incredibly slow (Slower than c/6 is accepted)
b. Life has < 2 spaceships of this speed
c. A weird slope (e.g. 2,52)
This is a strange speed:
(2,13)126c/1826364
This is NOT a strange speed:
42c/60 (The same as 2c/5)
(And no, I have not found any spaceships of that speed)
I'll start:
5c/14

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 7, rule = B2-a3i/S1c278

This is a strange speed:

Wouldn't that speed be (2,13)21c/304394?

My favourite is the famous family of (5, 2)c/190 spaceships in B38/S23:

B2i34cik7/S23-a4cikn7 is one of the strangest rules I've seen. Its natural ship speeds include c/2, 7c/29, 20c/83, and c/73.

Code: Select all

x = 125, y = 48, rule = B2i34cik7/S23-a4cikn7
82bobo$82b3o$82bobo$82bobo$82b3o4$80bobobobo2$79b2o2bo2b2o2$70b3o6bo2b
3o2bo6b3o$83bo$81b2ob2o$81bobobo$82b3o$83bo19$28b2o$28b2o52bobo$28b2o
45b3o11b3o$27b2o46bobo11bobo$74b4o11b4o$29b2o44bo2bo9bo2bo$28bobo48b2o
5b2o$o43b2o29bo4bo5bo4bo29b3o$3bo40bobo28bo3bo7bo3bo$2b2o42bo27b3o13b
3o27bo3bo$o2bo39bob2o28b3o11b3o28bo3bo$b3o39b2o31bo13bo29bobobo!
Something interesting to note is that because 7/29 and 20/83 are very close but not identical to each other, the second ship will surpass the third ship by only one cell every 2407 generations.

The c/73 ship can also push one or two blinkers, which doesn't change its speed but gives it a period of 1679.

Code: Select all

x = 25, y = 12, rule = B2i34cik7/S23-a4cikn7
11b3o2$10bo3bo$10bo3bo$10bobobo5$o23bo$o23bo$o23bo!
Another (less) interesting rule is B2in34k/S2-e3aeijq4-jr, which I've been exploring because of the ease of finding new ship speeds. I've found quite a few of them using gfind, but some interesting speeds that occur naturally are 5c/26 diagonal, c/8 diagonal, and c/14 diagonal.

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 28, rule = B2in34k/S2-e3aeijq4-jr
26bo$25b3o$23bo$22bo2$21bo$20b2o$21bo4$14bo$13bo$12bobo$10b2o2bo$13bo$

It's actually p42 diagonal. That means it could also be referred to as 2c/42.
