Yes, this literally lasted for 50 soups before blowing up. Folks, if you request hauls, please make sure you've submitted at least one small haul (10,000 soups) yourself to ensure that soup-searching a rule is feasible.

If you're asking others to soup-search rules, I feel it's not too much to ask for this in turn.

Going to put in some hauls for C1 and D4_+2 (which covers, in a sense, both D2_+2 and D2_+1). I'm amazed how much faster the former is!

I suggested D2_+2 because D4_+2 clumps together a lot and it is more likely that one of the 'monolith ships' i mentioned in TFYADIOCA will pop up

Notice the weird Z sequence that is printed (by gen. ~70000 you see how pseudo-random it looks)

EDIT: and another. Notice how aperiodicity is achieved by recursion, by deleting gliders (i.e. binary input detection) with still lifes/gliders that were originally the output from the same complex process.

Code: Select all

Those are interesting patterns. Considering this rule is quite close to regular Life, I wonder if infinite novelty could be generated in regular Life by a similar interaction. Nick Gotts has collected several ark interactions that take a very long time to become periodic at this link, but none of those are truly infinite novelty generators.

Unfortunately, the hauls for this beautiful rule are about 373 kB for a 25600-soup haul.

Rules like that, rules that combine large hauls with fast searching (10k soups = ~170 KB, at a rate of ~800 soups/sec), should only be searched very carefully so as to not break Catagolue and push it over its quota... encouraging -- asking -- others to contribute is pretty much the polar opposite of what you should be doing with them.

For a rule that is surprisingly searchable, b2en3ij4a5e7e8s1c2cek3-a4aiqw5aky. It features a replicator and many ships and guns.

Neat rule. I'm tempted to search a higher symmetry on this, but D4_+2 at least averages less than 0.02 soups/sec, so it's not all that feasible to search. (And I don't want to let it run for a week only to find out that it's either gotten stuck on some weird growth pattern, or produced a haul too large to be uploaded. :))

Searching C1, though!

Can somebody search B2-a3-ai4-an5678/S1e2a5678? I want to see how apgsearch handles its dynamic.

EDIT: Not sure if it will work in all honesty, it's not explosive but it would be very difficult to classify most patterns that come from soup...

Nice 5c/15 from manual soup searching in that rule:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 6, rule = B2-a3-ai4-an5678/S1e2a5678

B2e3-akr5ij78/S23aij4at7e, which contains a small p184 RRO and numerous elementary spaceships (found by 83bismuth38), would be an interesting rule to apgsearch.
