Re: Working on a flip-flop...
A worthy and well documented mechanism is Paul Rendell's Turing Machine. The documentation is broken down module by module and has yielded numerous components which resulted in great avail to my mechanisms. Why reinvent the wheel unless some overriding factor exists (i.e. space limitation, traffic l...

seeking small stable LW->G 135 degree
Help!
Most (all?) of the existing (known) LW->G p30 devices are 45 degree.
Of course, 2 p30 guns will give me 135 degree, as will a 45 + 90 degree compound.
I've got narrow paths of adjacent LWSS's to pick off and redirect.
Any pointer will be appreciated.

Agreed! I tried about every p30 device (even a pentadecathlon) I could think of. Over-thinking, I guess. It's almost as if there is an auto-optimize button! Thanks Kazyan. When implemented in practice, your provenance is assured. by dvgrn » Today, 4:06 am

Re: triller's p30 thread
Long time since I've posted. I will have a need in a large project to race a signal pulse ahead of the output of a mechanism working in the opposite direction. I thought I'd give a high speed wire a shot. Periodic being my bent, I worked over the version of Dean Hickerson's 2c/3 diagonal wire from o...

How about a fibonacci generator with display like the Collatz one? I tried to assemble the decoder and the fibonacci generator, but it didn't work. One thing I see that I failed to mention about the BCD converter is that it does not accept a zero argument agreeably. The nibbler that determines inpu...

A modicum of Spartan glue can't hurt though, as long as the bounding box isn't prohibitive. Not to be pedantic... I've been accused of being pedantic. I took a brief tangential journey into the Nomic world. Upon my judgement of the rules as written, apparently a participant took offense at my inter...

Re: triller's p30 thread
Watch out, though, @triller -- this kind of thing mixes very easily with p30 circuitry, but it's a slippery slope. Once you notice how nice it is not to have to deal with p30 rephasing issues, it might be hard to go back. Not to worry. My toolbox runneth over w/ p30 fasteners. A modicum of Spartan ...

How about a fibonacci generator with display like the Collatz one? I tried to assemble the decoder and the fibonacci generator, but it didn't work. How to make the pulsar display device display something else? It seems I've been remiss in chiming in. Other projects abound. As dvgrn stated, the bit map ROM cells are 64 (possible) glider memory cells for any 8x8 bit map of your choosing. I opted for a simple font of the hexadecimal character set...

Might as well mention that Life itself is capable of simulating Life. (see OTCA metapixel ) Being of periodic bent, I'm surprised this slipped under my radar. Maybe it was p46 vice my p30. There are some nice things in this construction. The 'honey bit' memory is intriguing in an inverse logic kind...

Re: Syntheses of Unusual Still Lifes
By the way, I see that many of the RLE files in 5gliders.rar have bad headers, like "x = -78, y = -60, rule = S S23/B3" in p2o8g5-bipole.lif. Golly ignores the negative x and y values, but interprets the rule as one in which every cell dies, so I've edited my copies to correct that. I've seen this ...

While the bulk of accomplishments this year are interesting to me as curiosities, the Simkin Gun has direct impact in my particular bent, that of p30 circuitry. Its side shooting action makes it a great fit in some optimizations.

If you have more specific requirements for recovery time, available space, or reconstruction options, just post them and I can probably dig up something to match. I was considering injecting a Herschel into the six blocks of a B60P120 gun to start it. I looked at the two glider b-hep collisions to ...
